The Durham, North Carolina office of GEL Geophysics is currently seeking a Geophysicist to support our growth in the North Carolina region.   

The geophysicist will be responsible for performing and assisting with surface and borehole geophysical survey planning, proposal preparation, project budgeting, data collection, data interpretation and report preparation. You will integrate closely with other geoscientists to complete projects. Typical projects use GPR, EM, ERI, magnetometer, seismic and various borehole logging methods to characterize the subsurface for environmental and engineering applications.  The ideal candidate will have 5 plus years relevant experience.  

Required Skills, Education and Experience:
•    A Bachelors or Masters degree in Geophysics or related field is required
•    Proven track record in sales and marketing a plus
•    Experience with underground utility locating equipment and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) a plus

Mount Sopris Instrument Company

Field Support Engineer

Mount Sopris Instrument Company has an immediate opening for a field support engineer.  Duties for this position include commissioning of Mount Sopris logging systems at remotes sites around the world, normally followed by training of our customers in the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all logging hardware.  In addition, on-site training of our customers in the use of WellCAD log processing software is frequently required.  The position is based in Denver, Colorado, USA.  While not in the field, this position will also provide support to our sales, production, and rental departments.  The ideal candidate should enjoy international travel, and be prepared to spend weeks or more away from home, in remote locations, wherever our customers may operate.  A four year degree with emphasis in electronics, geophysics or related studies is desired, with at least two years’ experience operating Mount Sopris or similar logging equipment.  The ability to work independently and be able to solve problems in a field environment is desired.  Preference will be given to candidates who speak more than one language, and have demonstrated experience in training others.  A valid driver’s license is required.

Our National Security Global Business is currently seeking a Geophysics Research Scientist. This position is located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.  Our geophysics group specializes in state-of-the-art airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveying for near-surface targets such as unexploded ordnance (UXO) and infrastructure (pipelines), as well as electrical conductivity mapping for detailed assessments of earthen levees or other subsurface features of interest.

The Geophysicist responsibilities include:

• Acquisition, processing, and analysis of precision ground and airborne magnetic and electromagnetic data
• Report writing and data archiving
• Field work in both domestic and foreign locations
• Support to new and ongoing geophysical research in sensor, systems, and algorithm development
• Participation in proposal writing, marketing, business development, and development/submission of technical publications and journal articles

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

• BS or MS in geophysics, engineering, earth science, or related discipline with a strong computational background
• Coursework with a record of solid academic performance in geophysics, earth science, physical science, and computational methods
• Coursework incorporating geophysical data processing, mathematical modeling, and computer language(s)/programming is preferred
• 1-5 years of relevant experience in geophysical surveying systems and methods, with magnetic and electromagnetic systems surveying preferred
• Willingness to travel up to 50% and support project field work in both domestic and foreign locations.  Experience in providing support to U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) clients, including DoD’s Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP), is preferred
• Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office.  Experience with geophysical/technical software packages including Geosoft Oasis montaj, Matlab, ArcGIS, and related utilities/scripts is preferred
• Ability to successfully pass medical screening, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to pass Commercial Motor Vehicle training and associated medical exam
• Ability to pass HAZWOPER safety training and maintain HAZWOPER certification

GEOTECHNOLOGY, INC., a leading geo-environmental consulting firm in the Midwest, is currently seeking experienced candidates to fill our STAFF GEOPHYSICIST positions in our Memphis and Overland Park branches! We are looking for candidates with a B.S. or M.S. in Geophysics or Geology with emphasis on Geophysics (M.S. with thesis in geophysics preferred). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Components of the position include conducting geophysical data acquisition, processing and interpretation for a variety of methods including ground penetrating radar (GPR), resistivity, electromagnetics, seismic refraction, seismic reflection, surface waves, magnetics, and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE).  Duties may include; organizing and directing field operations involving two or more geophysical staff, preparing detailed field reports and maps, assisting in the preparation of proposals and reports, performing physically demanding work sometimes involving heavy lifting and sometimes in hot or cold environments, practicing loss prevention techniques, alerting senior staff to problems arising during the course of a project, working independently on a variety of assignments, working out of town as needed, and striving to learn new technical skills.  Also, in addition to geophysical surveys, the position includes performing environmental and/or geotechnical field services such as: performing environmental soil and groundwater sampling for analytical testing and performing environmental assessments.
