SAGEEP 2013 I Denver, Colorado USA I March 17-21, 2013

Dear Colleague,
This is your invitation to join us in Denver for the 26th Annual Symposium on the Application of Geophysics for Engineering and Environmental Problems (SAGEEP). This meeting is your best one-stop shop to learn the current state of practice for all methods to image shallow subsurface features with geophysical tools.
The 2013 SAGEEP Organizing Committee has prepared five full days of opportunities to enjoy the company of old and new friends as you learn the latest happenings in our industry. Whether you drop in for a day or stay the week, you will find that the Marriott Denver Tech Center is an excellent fit for our meeting and comfortable in every respect, including the location in the upscale business district along the I-25 corridor south of downtown Denver.
This year’s theme, "New Views of Our Earth", will find relevance as you look out your room window at the snow covered Rockies, and as you see the capabilities of new instrumentation and algorithms in the hands of our industry’s professionals. Bruce Smith of the U.S. Geological Survey is this year’s Technical Program Chair and has worked with an excellent team of diverse scientists to assemble a technical program of over 250 oral and poster presentations. They have designed a combination of application and methods based sessions to appeal to every interest.
Micki Allen has again served to fill the modern and spacious Exhibit Hall with vendors offering what you need regarding equipment, software, and services. Micki has also arranged for the Outdoor Demos of equipment on the hotel grounds Monday afternoon, and is our organizer and hostess for the Conference Evening Dinner at Shanahan’s Restaurant Tuesday evening near the hotel. Don’t miss it.
Short course offerings this year include two all day on Sunday; Julian Ivanov on Advanced Surface Wave Analysis, and Jared Abraham and a team of experts on Geophysics for Watershed Management; and two all day on Thursday; Barry Allred and others on Agricultural Geophysics, and Darren Mortimer on use of the popular software package Oasis Montaj.
Our Keynote Speaker this year is John Jansen, a member of EEGS and the National Groundwater Association, presenting the NGWA McEllhiney Distinguished Lecture on Aquifer Sustainability. John’s talk is on Monday morning, followed by a special session of the four best presentations at the 2012 European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers Near Surface Geoscience Division meeting in Paris last September.
All EEGS and SEG members will be interested to join us for a Monday lunch forum to learn and discuss the plans for potentially joining EEGS and SEG’s Near Surface Geophysics Section to form a new SEG subsidiary organization.
Rick Miller will present his SEG Honorary Lecture on shallow seismic reflection during the EEGS Tuesday Luncheon, and Roel Snieder, chaired professor in geophysics at the Colorado School of Mines, will speak about Geoscientists
Without Borders® during the EEGS Foundation Luncheon on Wednesday. A special Student Event on Monday evening open to everyone and offering pizza and beer (free to students) presents five young faculty who were recipients of the EEGS / Geonics Early Career Award speaking informally on issues relevant to students and professionals.
As you plan to join us in Denver, bring your skis and make reservations to stay through Friday. We will offer tips and tricks for how to get the most of a single day ski trip on your own.
See you soon!
